...to smell the flowers! These roses are in our backyard and are just now blooming for the Spring (I think they are called Queen Anne's Lace)

Ostrich
One of the things that is different about Chandler is it's fondness for ostriches. Every year, there is the Ostrich Festival to celebrate the city's history of ostrich farming; I don't think there are any current ostrich farms in town, but downtown Chandler hosts several of these artsy ostrich

Here's a close-up shot of the trunk of one of those vines from yesterday's photo; all tangled and gnarly

Love the vines
Here's another walkway at the San Marcos hotel; I love the old vines that grow up and over - I need to go back to see if they are in bloom!

Patio at San Marcos
The Hotel San Marcos was the first golf resort in Arizona; it is in downtown Chandler, next to nice shops and restaurants - here is one of the outdoor dining areas; I like the way the blue awnings make the area look nice and cool

Trees in bloom
I have no idea what these trees are, but they are so pretty in bloom; I took this shot a couple of weeks ago, and have since driven by - the flowers are already fading due to our little heat wave; anyone know what they are?

Racing to the outhouse
This old outhouse is set back in the woods behind the cabin we rented up at Mormon Lake; the kids got a kick out of it, but I'm not sure they even knew what it was for - hope everyone had a nice Easter!

It's not very often that little kids in Arizona get to catch snowflakes on their tongue!

Here's the view through the stagecoach window from yesterday's photo; they have a little Western themed set that they use in the summertime for parties and weddings

Stuck in the snow
We made a weekend trip up to Mormon Lake in Northern AZ, and were surprised to see how much snow is still on the ground there! Here's an old stagecoach they have that the kids were playing around in

A nice break from the desert photos I've been posting lately - click on this one to see the silly boys as they learn all about baseball - these boys are about 5

One more grave
Here's the last from my pics from the old graveyard we found in the desert; this is an interesting cross to mark the grave, but it didn't tell who it was for; the anonymous cowboy, I guess

Unmarked grave
Another grave from our visit to the deserted cemetary, this one with just a simple cross.

Manuelita Guzman grave
Another grave at the abandoned graveyard we found; most of the graves were simple crosses and rocks to mark where the original grave was, but somebody put some time into preserving this one; I don't know the story behind it, but it is for one Manuelita Guzman, born 1844, died in June, 1916

Mattie Earp grave
Out in the desert by Superior, there is an old abandoned (but still tended to, somewhat) graveyard; this is the final resting spot of Mattie Earp (Celia Ann Blaylock), the second wife (commonlaw, they never actually married) of infamous Wyatt Earp, who is best know for his participation in the gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone

Rock fence
Here's another part of the corral from yesterday's photo - a rock fence sets the boundaries for most of the corral, must have been a ton of work, but makes a pretty picture

Corral
This old corral is off the beaten path, out near Superior - I'm not sure if it's used anymore or not, but there was a lot of tasty grass so I'm thinking not for awhile
