Saguaro skeletons

The coyote exhibit at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum looks like it's just part of the desert; one way they camoflauge it is to use saguaro skeletons to hide the fence posts

coyote... and a weird saguaro

They have some great animal exhibits at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum; here is the coyote exhibit - can you see him? If you click to enlarge the picture, you can probably see the wire fencing they use, otherwise it looks like they are just roaming around wild; I also like the saguaro in the background with the mysterious missing top

Mickey Mouse saguaro

We were out geocaching in the desert for the last time until late fall, when it will cool down again; there is a geocache hidden by this cactus - doesn't it look like Mickey Mouse?

I can't pick my three faves today, be back on Monday!

Old cave

This old mining cave is on the property we were camping on; it's pretty spooky, but we had fun taking the kids snipe hunting in the cave after dark - never did catch one, though

Free house!

Needs work - we were visiting some friends up near Mayer, AZ (which is on the way to Prescott) and they showed us this old abandoned house back in the high desert - kind of creepy, and really in the middle of nowhere

One more grave

Here's the last from my pics from the old graveyard we found in the desert; this is an interesting cross to mark the grave, but it didn't tell who it was for; the anonymous cowboy, I guess

Manuelita Guzman grave

Another grave at the abandoned graveyard we found; most of the graves were simple crosses and rocks to mark where the original grave was, but somebody put some time into preserving this one; I don't know the story behind it, but it is for one Manuelita Guzman, born 1844, died in June, 1916

Mattie Earp grave

Out in the desert by Superior, there is an old abandoned (but still tended to, somewhat) graveyard; this is the final resting spot of Mattie Earp (Celia Ann Blaylock), the second wife (commonlaw, they never actually married) of infamous Wyatt Earp, who is best know for his participation in the gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone

Rock fence

Here's another part of the corral from yesterday's photo - a rock fence sets the boundaries for most of the corral, must have been a ton of work, but makes a pretty picture
