Yet another water park, this one with quite a bit more shade for the parents; this one tends to get a little slippery for the kids, I'm not sure why - run at your own risk!

A picture a day from Arizona suburbia and Arizona road trips

This was a display at the Tempe Public Library - the fish are made out of paper, and it was kind of dark down there, so they appear to be swimming through the air
My three favorite daily city photos of the day are:
This was taken outside a restaurant called The Elephant Bar - I think it's a chain; in fact, right around the Chandler Mall area, the only businesses that can afford to be there seem to be chains. I tend to prefer locally owned places, but a girl's gotta eat

Thank you to all the men and women who have fought for us and our freedom.

Our oldest son is named after his Grandpa, who served in World War II and the Korean War.

This was taken at the Bank One Ballpark (which is now called Chase Field), before the Diamondbacks game in the World Series in October 2001. Patriotism was running very high at the time, since we had just gone through Sept. 11. Please take time this weekend to reflect on the people who fought, and are still fighting, for your freedom.

The Arizona State Capitol building in Phoenix, Arizona, formerly housed the Territorial and State Legislatures, as well as various executive offices. These have relocated to adjacent buildings, and the Capitol is maintained as a museum, which we visited yesterday (it's free, and air-conditioned!)
The building was created as part of an effort to demonstrate that the Arizona Territory was ready for statehood. A design contest was won by James Riely Gordon, and ground was broken in 1898. The building opened in 1900, and was home to the Legislature until 1960, and the Governor's Office until 1974. After a restoration, the building became a museum.

My husband and son like to take our canoe out on the small lake we live on to try their luck with the fish; I liked this picture because of the reflection of the trees on the water.

There are no shortage of palm trees to photograph around here - these were taken from the parking lot at the Phoenix Zoo, and you can see Hunt's tomb in the background (looks like a little pyramid). Hunt was the first governor of Arizona, and he fought for women's voting rights! The mountains to the right are the Papago mountains.

There's nothing like running through water when it's warm out! This one is at Espee Park in Chandler, and the kids were having a great time - not enough shade for parents, though - I wonder if they think of the parents when they design these places...

I wish I knew the name of this plant, but I don't - I just thought it was cool; this was taken at the Phoenix Zoo, which is a great place to look at animals and interesting plants!

The road from Phoenix to Tucson is a very straight, flat, dull drive, but I kind of like the hazy look to this picture. You can click the picture to see more detail of the desert.

These little guys are waiting patiently for their turn at bat - sure is hot in those helmets!

OK, I have to confess - this was actually preserved and safely under glass at the Mesa Southwest Museum. I've never actually seen a centipede like this one in nature, but I'm told they are out there! It's hard to tell the head from the tail, which is one of it's protective features - confuses predators, that sort of thing
